Went and saw The Dark Knight last Friday. This was my first trip to Big Picture and I was extremely impressed. I love the idea of having a beer while watching a movie and the fact that they have Mac & Jack's even better. The setting is really cozy and makes a great place for a date.  If you are in Belltown some night and looking to see a movie you should head here.

Wow what a great place! We went on a Monday night to see the Dark Knight and I guess we hit some sort of special, since the admission was only $7 each. The employees are great, our cashier recommended a couple good places to eat before the showing.

The drinks are reasonable, $7.50 for a cocktail (the Key Lime pie one is delicious) although the selection is not huge.  Popcorn was tasty, and they brought us drinks during the movie! This was done very unobtrusively and it was not at all distracting.  The seats were comfy, the screen was not the biggest but good enough for me.

The atmosphere is what made it great - no tweens gabbing on their cellphones, no crying babies. The lounge area is nicely decorated with lots of couches, small tables, and little alcoves to sit and chat while enjoying a drink before the show. This would be a great place to bring a date.

Cozy little hidey-hole of a place to see a movie with a more upscale vibe than your average theater. Plus you can get drinks + your popcorn in a champagne bucket. What's not to love about that? If you think ahead they'll even deliver some food/drinks to you in your seat.

Doesn't serve dinner like Central Cinema (or similar places) but it's a nice alternative to the big Pacific Place or Meridian theaters downtown. Plus there are no kids allowed for movies, which can be nice (I say this as someone with a kid, but who recognizes having kid-free spaces is important too).

I've also attended a couple of corporate meetings and non-profit (non-movie) events here too and the space works pretty well for those purposes. Couple of different rooms to have conversation/appetizers, comfy seats to listen to the presentation (or sleep if you're boss isn't watching), etc.

The main downside is that movies here tend to sell out fast, and even with a ticket you have to get to the theater 30-60 minutes ahead of your showing to ensure you get seated with your friends. I wish they'd just do assigned seating like when you buy your ticket for anything that's not a movie, or buy movie tickets in other countries. At any rate, all the seats are good, even the ones in the very front, but it's a small enough place that you're more likely to end up separated than the bigger chain theaters.

Tip: Get on the mailing list. You get these coupons periodically via email for a couple bucks off admission.

With the advent of Netflix, my boyfriend's big screen TV, and a Kegerator downstairs, my lazy and cheap-ass has been having a hard time finding a reason to leave the house to watch a movie.

I think I have just found my reason.

Big Picture was COMPLETELY different than I was expecting. I was prepared to shell out up to twice the normal ticket price, be in some cheesed up food-court-theme-park type of locale, and have watered down, floofy, ridiculously expensive drinks. Wow. Was I wrong.

1. Ticket prices were the same as any other theater. Maybe even cheaper. (I paid $10)
2. Interior was super swanky/cozy. It was the type of place I'd want to hang out at even without the movie.
3. The drinks were very well made, (Kudos to the bartenders), not overpriced, and there were tasty and interesting cocktail specials on the menu.
4. White Cheddar popcorn served in a champagne bucket. Classy.
5. Not only can your pre-order a drink to be brought into you half way through the movie, the bar stays open for the entire movie in case you need a third. I expect you could even order three drinks upfront.
6. 21+ required, so no ankle-biters there to cry/whine/generally make my reproductive organs shrivel and die through the movie.

Next time I feel the need to shell out money for a movie ticket, I don't really see myself going anywhere else.

I love this place- it's so romantic and exotic on the inside- plus I love how the lobby and stairs smell cause it's right below El Gaucho, that elusive restaurant that only the chosen people can afford...

Anyway, ask for Rachel if she is bartending- tell her Jessica H. sent you and she will hook you up!

I FINALLY made it to the Big Picture! I've been jealous for months every time a review popped up for this place because I was dying to check it out but for some reason could never make it happen.

Anywho, I'm glad I waited for the motion picture event of the year to visit; SEX AND THE CITY! My favorite TV series of all time.

This space could not have been more apropos. Swank, lavish and over 21! I downed two glasses of champagne and a delicious passionfruit cocktail before and during the movie. Holiday Golighty sponsored the private event and it was a huge, estrogen filled affair. 110 ladies all dolled up in their finest Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha ensembles, sipping cocktails and speculating about spoilers before the film. Three girlfriends and I actually went dressed as the girls. I was Charlotte.

The lobby area surrounding the theater is truly enchanting. Elegant and cozy seating areas with romantic lighting are there for you to relax with a cocktail before the film. The theater itself is nothing to scoff at either. The ladies and I snagged seats in the front row, which is not too close see comfortably and perched our feet on decorative ottomans.

The Big Picture can just be summed up as amazing. Full bar, great space and adults only. Truly a gem. Can my next date please be here!

Hidden downstairs of our great local steakhouse - el guacho - is this movie theater called the big picture!! there are maybe twenty something seats in this mini movie theater, and it is so beautiful!! truly intimate, and you have to be 21+ to get in.. why? because there is a bar in the lobby, and a couple of rooms to lounge in before the showing. There usually is only one showing a night, and maybe if you are lucky two.... I am excited to see sex in the city at the big picture because we can have our cosmo's and watch the movie!! :) girlsssssssssssssssssssssss let's go!!!!!

so plan ahead, and make reservations to enjoy a nice steak dinner, then go down to enjoy your movie :) hooray el guacho for funding this little adult movie theater!!! YEAH NO CHILDREN ALLOWED!!

What no one under 21 is welcomed at the Big Picture?
What they serve alcohol before and during a movie?
What a ticket at the Big Picture cost as much as a regular ticket?

How is this all possible? And why did it take me so long to check this place out??!!??? I have been going to the "regular" theaters ever since I got here but now things have changed!! I am a Big Picture man for life now!! And I even have the tattoo to prove it!

And now I no longer have to sneak in my booze into the theater because at the Big Picture you can get whatever your heart desires. And by that I mean BOOZE!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers

Oh hell yes!  This place is legit... Finally a place you can go see a movie and not have to worry about somebody's crying ass child screaming bloody murder behind you because the toy that came with their happy meal flew out the window of the moving car shortly beforehand because their parents have no f'ing control over them! (I love kids... Just not at the movies people... Get a GD babysitter!)

If you're going for an 8:30 show, get there at 7:30, order some drinks and chill out in the bad ass lounge until show time.  Seating in the theatre is first come first serve, just like a regular theatre, and it's small, so make sure your whole group is there when it's time to head in for the show.  Also, pre-order a couple of drinks to be brought in to you during the movie (a great feature of this joint) because you won't want to get up in the middle of the flick to grab a cocktail.  Make sure you ask for Kim at the bar... He's the man!  And tip well dammit!!

I can drink alcohol here without having to sneak it in!  The screen and sound are high-quality.

Best part about Big Picture, however, has got to be the white cheddar popcorn.  YUM.

in 2006, while working for a casual games company in belltown, i was put in charge of the company holiday party.  i was given a pretty big budget so i was really excited to see what was available.  a co-worker suggested the Big Picture - i'd never heard of it before, being fairly new to the seattle area.  when i checked out the website, i was immediately impressed.  the decor and the space was exactly what i was looking for.

the theme for the party that year was "007 - Casino Royale", so we decided to get a couple of blackjack tables, a craps table and a Texas Hold 'em table (yes, we were able to fit everything inside!) as well as renting a black and white photo booth for employees to take as many photos as they wanted.

the funny thing about this party was that although i was the one who set everything up, there wasn't much i had to do in terms of "setting up".  the people at Big Picture and the casino people did everything for me!

this is the only company party i've ever gotten drunk at.  i definitely had a good time.  they have all these super cute seating areas, with animal print furniture and cozy drapery.  the waiters and bartenders were all so sweet and the food was DELICIOUS!   i forget who catered now, this is why you don't wait two years to write a review.  but still, i have nothing negative to say about the theater itself.  they played a James Bond movie we brought in ourselves during the party, and we also held our "meeting" in the theater before everyone got too drunk.

all in all, we had a great time, and it was a wonderful place for a party.

I went here for the first time last week and absolutely loved it! A great ambiance that puts those $12, sticky floor, crying kid theaters to shame.

A must visit if you haven't been there before...now if there were only more seats so it wouldn't sell out so fast!

This place rocks.  It feels like being in someone's mansion that happens to have a screening room...and a bar!  Yeah baby! Cocktails while you watch a pretty decent flick.  Even if it isn't decent, you can go sit in one of the cozy corners and cushy couches to talk.
Best thing hands down - no kids.
Go. You will love it and will never want to go to a cineplex again.

Update: My Sister called and said she got the last two tickets to "Cosmo' night when they play the new 'Sex and The City" movie. WOOT!  Gotta go shop for shoes.

Five Stars!  This place is great.  The atmosphere is high class with a 1920's feel and the prices aren't bad.  Not only is the theater small and intimate (with ottoman's up front and reclining seats), but it has great service.  When I ordered M&M's they poured them into a cocktail glass!  When I ordered a martini they offered to put in blue cheese stuffed olives if I wanted (which I believe they stuffed and were FANTASTIC!)...  And perhaps greatest of all.....when the movie is over they have your tab waiting for you in an organized manner.  I was extremely impressed.

If I could see every movie that I'm interested in here I'd be a happy camper. Of course, if I saw every movie I wanted to see here, it'd probably lose it's charm.

As is, this place is a really nice place to see a movie. I love how intimate it is. Plus, a 21+ theater keeps out all the obnoxious people.

All of the little lounges are cozy and romantic. The staff are super nice; they hold doors and take empty glasses from you after the movie.

And where else can you go, spend $45 and get two movie tickets, a bucket of popcorn and a bottle of (while inexpensive) yummy champagne? No where I know but Big Picture.

Need to impress a date? Take them here. Want a little romance with your existing significant other? Take them here. Want to have some fun with your friends and see a movie AND drink at the same time? Bring them here.

for the last year or so I have only been to the movies less than a handful of times because:

-i don't like watching a movie with obnoxious teens
-the cost
-i don't like watching a movie with obnoxious teens!!
-the cost!!!!

i always thought to myself that paying this much to go to a movie would be so worth it if i could have some drinky drinks too...

OH GOODNESS GRACIOUS THANK YOU BIG PICTURE!!!!!

-no obnoxious teens
-the cost is the same as the regular theater
-great environment with a fabulous lounge to chill in while you wait to sit in the theater
-room for 60 people only and the front row isn't too close to the screen
-no previews!!!!!!!
-the popcorn

i have been spoiled rotten. i would be fine not ever having to go watch a movie in a regular theater again : )

If I were able to construct my very own movie theater, it would be exactly like the Big Picture: small setting, swank decor, martinis at will, chocolate kisses, no children. The only thing that makes the Big Picture different from my own personal dream theater is they don't give you a massage while you're watching the film. Small detail that I'll overlook.

Great atmosphere, very romantic (lots of cozy nooks for chatting or cuddling in), perfect for dates, 21+.

Sign up for their email list and get $4 off standard admission on a second ticket, or $1 off a matine second ticket (plus it keeps you in the know about what's playing at both locations).

Get there early for good seats - and to avoid a sellout show like "Juno"!

The best part of this place: over 21 means no wailing babies.  Yesss, no kids!  Oh, and the cushy seats.  And how small it is.  And the drinks.  And the selection of films - Juno is my fave new right-wing flick!

Only reason this place doesn't get a five is the sound system/acoustics, a bit sub-par.

Given the fact that Netflix is so ubiquitious and going to the movies is so expensive - the Big Picture did a great job of convincing me to leave the house (which is not too easy to do, in all honesty.)

How can you not love a movie theater that gives you a hershey's kiss when you pay?  Plus, a full bar if you're seeing a movie like Superbad which kind of begs for accompaniment.  The theater is kind of intimate, but that's the charm of it, and I really liked the bar area. It struck me as a good place to break up with someone. Sample dialogue:

He:  I'm sorry, that's how I feel.
She:  Fine. (Sniffles). Funny, you never cared how I felt about anything...
He: Let's talk later. Let's just watch the movie.
She: Fine. (Snuffles).

See what I mean?  The perfect end to the break up conversation.

The downside is:  Belltown. Please Hipster Boi - remove your stupid porkpie hat during the movie!  Short people can't see!  Gawd.

You don't go to The Big Picture for the sound quality or quality of the movie projection.  You go for the cocktail you have before the show, the cocktail you can have during the movie, delivered right to your chair, and the champagne bucket full of white cheddar popcorn.  Then, you stay for the sumptuous and well-appointed seating areas, where you can chat cozily with your date or friends.  Awesome!  It's tucked away under El Gaucho, so locals "in the know" can be found there.  All this joy for $7 (cocktails and popcorn sold separately, of course), and a first-run movie.

I just read the previous review of the Big Picture.... All I have to say is, "if you didn't like your seat, why did you show up so late in the first place?"... You know that's what happened... Don't blame the owner, blame yourself.

Be Prepared... If you want to see a movie here on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night show up really early to buy your ticket. This isn't like going to AMC or Regal and just walking in.... The theater is small and it sells out fast. If you want to go to the 6:15 PM show, buy your ticket at 4:30 PM, then go have a nice dinner somewhere.

If you want to get a good seat, make sure you are back at least 45 minutes before the show starts... This sounds like a hassle, but you have a GREAT bar to sit in and relax. Remember, you aren't just going in and out for a movie.... this is an experience.

Actually, all of the good reviews of this place talk about how great it is to watch a first-run movie while enjoying some good liquor and popcorn. I totally agree! If movie theaters are to survive competition from on-demand movies at home or Netflix, they need to start offering a better experience. Instead of concession stands, they need to offer food and drink service while you watch the movie. That's how they make their money anyways....

Yes the experience at Big Picture is worth it, but I have to applaud the service too. Prior to showing up to get our tickets, we called them to ask about dress code, etc.... It seems silly, but their web site makes it seem like it is a fancy place.... Not in the least. It is VERY comfortable and casual. Baseball caps, jeans, tshirts are definitely welcomed.

Along with letting us know about the dress code, they also told us the best way to have a hassle free evening..... Don't just show up 5 minutes before the movie starts. Get your tickets early. Grab yourself a drink, then sit back and relax....

We followed their advice and had a great experience. Thanks for the great service!

Great place....cocktails during a movie.  Could you imagine the money AMC et al could make if they did this?  Though certain states, I'm sure, would disallow tykes mixing with boozers.  Part of the Great American Irrational Fear of Alcohol.

Anyhoo, other than too many damn Red Hook taps (hey, Big Picture, Anheuser Busch is a part owner!  It's no longer the local brewer we all knew and loved.  For God's sake they brew much of their beer in New Hampshire now!  Pick something like Pike or Elysian if you want to support local), the booze selection is well chosen and reasonable.

Sound quality was pretty darn good and the screen, for the room, was quite large.

One hint:  throw your coat over the seats you want when you arrive, or, like Bob Uecker, you'll be sittin' in the front row.

This place is an absolute gem in the downtown Seattle area.  The Big Picture is a throwback to days past when the cinema was a place for adults to go and relax, have a drink or two and enjoy each other's company instead of listening to the two junior-high schoolers behind you talk about their last shopping extravaganza.

You won't find those two here.  At the end of the hallway as you walk by the swanky El Gaucho steakhouse, you turn the corner and head down a narrow staircase and are welcomed into a warm, lavish underground lounge.  This is a cinema-lover's paradise.  Where else can you enjoy a cocktail and a hit movie on a big screen while lounging in oversized chairs?  This is the place to do just that.

I usually order a drink when I arrive and then another right before the show begins.  You can also pre-order beverages to arrive at pre-delineated times during the course of the movie.  Drinks aren't cheap but are consistently good.  The White Chocolate Martini with Grand Marnier is awesome.

I'm not a big popcorn fanatic, so I have not tried their different flavors of popcorn that come in champagne buckets, but I know that those who like the stuff, like popcorn here.

This is the place to go for a movie-unless you're wanting to see a major movie attraction that requires an even larger screen and more sophisticated sound system (think Transformers, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars etc)-that would be the Cinerama just a few blocks away from Big Picture.  But if you're seeing American Gangster, Knocked Up, Hot Fuzz or any of the other films Big Picture has played recently, don't hesitate to go!  Yeah, you pay more not because of the movie ticket, which is the average $8 or $9 but because when you go, you obviously have to drink.  However, Big Picture transforms any film-going experience into a glamorous evening.

In fact, what's playing now?

This place is a great alternative to bigger movie theaters. The bar is a huge plus. The only downside is that there is only one screen and they sometimes run the same film for ages. Once you see it, you'll have to wait  to go back for a new one.

Went here with my boyfriend on a Tuesday night.  Really cool vibe inside; lots of plush chairs/sofas and beautiful tables for groups.  Somewhat dim with chill music.  Full bar, very helpful and pleasant staff.

We got there with about 10 minutes to spare before the movie started so we bought tickets, ordered cocktails/popcorn/candy and wandered into the theater room.  The screen isn't quite as big as a normal theater, but the seats were very comfy.   Next time we'll go earlier to chill in the sitting area with a couple pre-movie drinks.

No previews!

I was also impressed when we were served M&Ms in a chilled glass.

Best part was that we were able to arrange with the bartender  to have a refresher on our cocktails brought to our seats halfway through the movie.

I'm sold.  5 stars.

The Big Picture is one of the most unique cinema experiences you will find.  Located downtown what could have easily been a basement at some point, this place oozes personality.  The decor is gorgeous and makes you want to sip from your glass and puff on a cigar (not that you could).

The full-service bar is pricey (which is the only reason for 4 stars vice 5 stars) but good.  Some of the signature drinks are delicious, even if a bit on the small side.  Candy comes served in a small glass and white cheddar popcorn is offered in champagne buckets.

Inside the theater are comfortable chairs with plenty of walk-room.  The seating in front even has ottomans available.  The staff will deliver drinks to you during the film, as well, which is a very nice touch.  The theater generally plays some of the hippest movies, not always going with mainstream or big-budget productions.

I would recommend The Big Picture to any film lover looking for something different.  A perfect place for dates, but be sure and show up early as the small theater sells out quickly.  Overall, one of the most wonderful places to spend an evening in Seattle.

Even after all the hype, Big Picture really is that cool. Just a great fuckin' idea; totally cool digs, new releases, comfy places to hang out and enjoy some great cocktails before, during and after. They have a separate conference room for meetings/groups, side rooms for groups to hang out in and little nooks and crannies stuffed with comfortable chairs/couches if you're looking for something a little more private. We just ate a huge dinner across the street so didn't try anything to eat at Big Picture but the popcorn looked and smelled great.

My only recommendation would be a later showing. You have to get an early start if you're going to grab dinner and/or drinks before the 8:30 showing.

Great it ain't, but its different.

The atmosphere in the lobby is fun - lots of dimly-lit areas, great for sipping drinks while waiting for the show to begin. The theatre seats are the least comfortable seats you'll find anywhere.

The staff really wasn't very great, just some people doing their jobs - not bad, not great. Its a great idea, but its not executed the way that it should be.

The lobby area has a great atmosphere, but I've seen better seats in peep shows.

Best in class at the Big Picture.  I don't think I ever want to go to a "normal" theater again.  It's like going to the movies ought to be.

Here's how it goes:
1. Get there a little early, pick a seat out, throw your jacket down, stake your claim in some way.  Remember that seat number.
2. Mosey back out to the Bar area and choose a drink.  Then choose another to be delivered at the proper interval.  You might need 45 min, I prefer my second in about 30 min.

-- Did I mention admission is only $7?

3. Drink your drink with someone nice in one on one of the old fashioned sofas.  Take it in.

4. Back to your seat in the theater, and yeah, it's small, and it isn't the place where you want to watch the latest action flick that the Bose store will latter use to sell their wares.  But enjoy, and just a few short minutes later the good people from the bar shall deliver you your pre-ordered drink.

This is what it's about.

So you say you want a Manhattan, a Movie, and some delicious white cheddar popcorn...Do you happen to live Downtown? Because it could be closer than you think...or at least closer than I thought for 6 months...

Thanks to Yelp I feel like an insider in the movie bizness...Supercool lobby, cocktails, wine, or beer....and a 1st run movie....plus some of the most attentive staff ever. I never waited more than 2 minutes for anything...Movie Ticket, Beverage, Popcorn, and questions.

I was waiting to get hammered with 30 minutes of Commercials and Previews, but other than a minute or two about the Big Picture...The Feature Presentation...In an age of constant advertising, I was speechless.

I would say for the size of the theatre (maybe 60+ seats) that the screen and sound were more than adequate...and plus when you can request that drinks be brought to your seat at a time of your choosing....then well its magical.

Now all they need to do is figure out how to pause the movie so when I have to go to the bathroom after my flurry of Manhattans, I dont miss Jason Bourne kickin the Eurotrash out of someone.

Yeah, it's a cool place.  I do have one complaint, though.  We bought tickets for a 4pm showing the other day and when we went in to get our seats, the only remaining seats were either separate, or individual wooden chairs placed next to the actual theater seats.  So basically the owner is trying to sell more movie tickets by putting these shitty wooden chairs in there.  Which sucks because if I pay my money to see a movie, I want to sit in a FREAKING COMFORTABLE CHAIR!  Otherwise I'd have just rented a movie and sat on my comfy couch at home.  Fortunately, we were able to exchange our tickets for the 6:00 showing, so we left and came back.

The Big Picture is smokin' hot, and not in a sweaty way. It was perfectly air conditioned in fact. Honestly, it needs another five star review like I need three Mondays in a row.

But I can't resist writing one more sparkling review, and I don't know why I didn't review this place after the moment I moved in... I mean started attending regularly. A movie theatre done all swanky: Something about that makes me feel glamorous and lovely and luxurious. And even though Big Picture is open to the public, it feels like it's meant for a private showing... You can have these there too, according to the site...

I have yet to visit the Redmond location, but from the photos it looks a little bigger, which is not necessarily something I need out of this place. I like the small theatre feeling, the dateish feeling of the evening..

Come hungry... there is plenty to eat.... Even the popcorn is fancy- white cheddar popcorn served in a Champagne Bucket. HHmmmmm... Washing it down with real pink champagne and a dark choclate bar?! Fine dining.

Over the past two years, I've heard alot of good things about Big Picture.  I finally had the chance when some friends invited me to see Hairspray which they argued could be better enjoyed with a drink in hand.

The first thing was did was, of course, hit the bar.  I decided on my drink instantly, a Mojito!  Unfortunately, I regretted the decision the second I took a sip and had doubts while watching him make it.

The bar was understaffed and I heard rumors that someone didn't show up for their shift so others might want to give them a second chance.  I might too!

Why is the Big Picture the best ever...very simple really:

A bar, great movies, minus anyone under the age of 21 in the theater thinking its cool to talk on their cellphones and giggle. HI, yea I didnt pay $9.50 to hear you. They serve popcorn, so light and fluffy in a big ol bucket and will deliver a drink to your seat! I mean come on, if they wouldnt notice i would move into one of the lounge areas and stay...forever. Damn!! - there goes that plan, since my picture is on here. Go early, hang out in the bar or lounge and have a relaxed evening of it!
